PRUSSIAN CAMP. English, Country Dance and Jig (6/8 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. London publishers the Thompsons printed the identical melody and dance instructions in 1765, found in John Hinton's periodical London Magazine: Or, Gentleman’s Monthly Intelligencer (January, 1759, p. 45) and R. Baldwin's The London Magazine, or Gentleman's Monthly Intelligencer (1759, p. 45). The title may refer to Frederick the Great's defeat at the hands of the Austrians at the Battle of Hochkirch (Oct., 1758) during the Seven Years War, when the Austrians overran the Prussian camp at Hochkirk, eastern Saxony.
