QUEEN'S FIDDLERS COMPLIMENTS TO MR. TROUP. Scottish, Strathspey. Composed by Crathie, Aberdeenshire, farmer, fiddler and violin maker William Blair (1793-1884), famed as a player of Scots dance music before he became fiddler to Queen Victoria from 1848. Blair's melodies were published, often without attribution, in the 1880's Skye and Atholl collections, perhaps indicating they were in general circulation at the time. A posthumous collection of Blair's tunes, Original Reels & Strathspeys, was issued in the early 1890's. See also his compositions "Balmoral Castle (2)," "Crathie Kirk," "Lochnagar?," "It's nae ay for want o' health o? (It's nae ay for want o' Health the Ladies Gang to Pannaich)," "Loch Muick (2)," "Miss McDonald Clachanturn's," "Miss Ann Simon's," "Mr. A. Troup's," and "Craig-Gowan."
