RATTLESNAKE SHAKE. Old-Time. The title appears in a list of traditional Ozarks Mountains fiddle tunes compiled by musicologist/folklorist Vance Randolph, published in 1954. The Rattlesnake Shake is also a square dance figure in the Ozarks, when a single dancer is being circled by the others giving him/her a chance to improvise steps and show off.
