RED COAT, THE. AKA and see "Gordon Castle (3)," "Cambdelmore," "Ballindaloch's Rant." Scottish, Pipe Strathspey or March (2/4 time). A Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. A pipe strathspey and march in Scotland, but fiddlers on Cape Breton sometimes play it as a reel. Historically, the tune has been rendered as a march, strathspey and reel under this and alternate titles. The tune appears twice in William Ross's 1869 collection in march settings.
