REEL CHARLOTTE. French-Canadian, Reel (2/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB'. Researcher Jean Duval finds Boucher's "Reel Charlotte" to be a version of "Quadrille des Laurentides 4ème partie," recorded by Isidore Soucy in 1930. Duval notes that the piece is strongly associated with Soucy, who recorded it no less than three times over the course of his career. However, the tune was first recorded by another fiddler, Antonio Gauthier, under the title "Canadian Quickstep No. 2" (Columbia 34047 F). Boucher originally titled the reel "Danse à l'âiné" (Elder's Danse) in his 1927 unpublished music manuscript collection, precursor to his published 1933 volume[1]. Another version of the tune was recorded by Berlin, N.H., fiddler Louis Riendeau in the 1970's as "Louie's First Tune."
