REEL MAISONNEUVE [1]. AKA and see "Reel de Carillon" (The Nightingale). French-Canadian, Reel (cut time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB'. Montreal fiddler Joseph Allard recorded the tune in 1933 as "Reel Maisonneuve," however a version had previously been recorded in 1931 by fiddler Joseph Larocque as "Reel de Carillon" (Nightingale (7) (The)). Larocque's version resurfaced in the repertoire of Montreal fiddler Jean Carignan, as "The Nightingale," issued on "The Folk Fiddler who Electrified the Newport Folk Festival" (Elektra ELK-266, 1964).
