REEL ST-PIERRE. AKA and see "Reel du gueux." French-Canadian, Reel (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Montreal fiddler biography:Joseph Allard (1873-1947) recorded the reel in October, 1930, for Victor records. It was re-released in 1942 under the title "Reel du gueux." Allard researcher Jean Duval [1] finds the first strain of the reel to be a version of the second strain of the Irish "Molloy's Favourite (1)," while the second strain is shared with that of "Jenny's Chickens." The first strain of "Reel St-Pierre" is also cognate with an untitled reel in Cumbrian musician John Rook's 1840 music manuscript collection (see "Reel (14)").

Duval believes Allard resided for several years in Ville St-Pierre, a municipality on the west side of Montreal Island; alternatively, he may have know someone with the surname St-Pierre.
