REEL DES LIÈVRES, LE (The Hares' Reel). French-Canadian, Reel (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Researcher Jean Duval notes that Boucher's "Reel des lièvres" is a composite tune, with the first strain that of "Londonderry Hornpipe (The)" and Boucher's second strain an adaptation of the first strain of "Champion Hornpipe (1) (The)." Duval also suggests comparison with Isidore Soucy's "Reel américain (1)." Boucher's reel should not be confused with the similarly titled "Reel du lièvre (Le)," a musically unrelated tune.
