REEL DES NOCES. AKA and see "Braes of Mar (1) (The)," "Belle Catherine (3) (La),” "Reel de Pius Boudreau." French-Canadian, Reel. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BBA"A"CC. A early member of the tune "La Belle Catherine" tune family, a title popularized in the 20th century by Montreal fiddler Jean Carignan. "Reel des noces" comes from the playing of Carignan's mentor, Willie Ringuette. However, the tunes in this family are thought to be based on the Scottish "Braes of Mar (1) (The)," but vary widely from fiddler to fiddler.
