RIALTO HORNPIPE [2]. AKA and see "Clarinet Hornpipe." American, Hornpipe or Clog (cut time). B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Can be used as a Clog. As performed by G.L. Tracy” (Ryan)— George Lowell Tracy (1855-1921) was a young man who later composed light opera and composition books, according to musicologist Charles Wolfe. Tolman calls the tune a "degenerate period hornpipe," meaning one written in a highly ornamented and arpeggiated style typical of the latter 1800's. However, the tune probably does not have an American provenance and is earlier than the 'latter 1800's', for a cognate version of the tune appears as "Clarinet Hornpipe" in the c. 1840-1860 music copybook of Northumberland, England, musician John Baty.
