RIBBONMEN. Irish, Double Jig. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The Ribbonmen may perhaps refer to morris dancers, whose costumes sometimes took the form of multitudes of ribbons pinned to their clothing. Alternatively, it may refer to the Ribbonmen [1] of Ireland, an agrarian populist (but secret) movement that opposed the Orange (Protestant) order. Its objective was to prevent landlords from changing or evicting their tenants.
