RICHMOND SQUARE. American, Reel (cut time). D Major ('A' part) & A Major ('B' part). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Richmond Square" was recorded in New York City in May, 1929, by Charlie Poole’s [1] (1892-1931) band, called variously the North Carolina Ramblers and the Allegheny Highlanders, probably to avoid contractual problems between Paramount Records and Brunswick . The group’s personnel for the May, 1929, date consisted of Charlie Poole (banjo), Lonnie Austin (fiddle), Odell Smith (fiddle), Roy Harvey (guitar) and Lucy Terry (piano).
