ROCHELLE, LA. French, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Identified as a "French Air" in Hamilton's Universal Tune Book vol. 1 (1842). Fr. John Quinn notes the similarity between "La Rochelle" and "Morpeth's March," printed in Boston by Elias Howe in the mid-19th century. The second strains of the tunes are nearly identical, while the first strains share melodic material in the first two measures and thereafter are similar in character (if not in detail).
