ROCKY POINT JIG. AKA and see "Old Dad," "Pigtown Fling," "Stoney Point (1)," "Wild Horse." American, "Straight Jig" (2/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB'AA. "Rocky Point Jig" is a variant of a widespread American reel that goes by a variety of titles, but which has, as its central motif, distinct melodic material from the Irish and British "Mrs. MacLeod's Reel/Miss McLeod's Reel (1)." Howe's "Rocky Point Jig" (a variant of the more common "Stoney Point" title) is set as a "straight jig," a type of syncopated duple-time banjo or dance tune popular in the 1870's and 1880's that has no relation to the 6/8 Irish jig. "Rocky Point" also begins on what is usually the second strain of the tune , in the relative minor of the key.
