ROSCOE’S WALTZ. AKA – "Flying Indian Waltz," “Roscoe Parish Waltz.” Old-Time, Waltz. AAB. Recorded by Hart & Blech and Bruce Molsky, learned from fiddler and banjo player Roscoe Parish (1897-1984) of Coal Creek, Virginia. The tune is a crooked waltz-time version of the Scottish air and jig “Muckin' o' Geordie's Byre.” Kerry Blech notes that he later found an almost note-for-note version of “Muckin'” in Samuel Bayard’s book Dance to the Fiddle, March to the Fife (1981), a volume of southwestern Pennsylvania-collected fife and fiddle tunes.
