Sheet Music for "The Roscommon Jig"The Roscommon JigJig12

ROSCOMMON JIG. AKA and see “Bobby Casey's Jig (2),” “Diamond (2),” “Hag's Purse (The),” “Little Black Pig," "Lough Gowna," "Tumble the Tinker." D Mixolydian/Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune may well have an Irish provenance, but it appeared first in print in William Bradbury Ryan's Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1883) as the jig "Diamond (2)." Clare tin whistle player Micho Russell [1] (1915-1994) called the tune "Little Black Pig," while Breathnach printed it as "Hag's Purse (The)" AKA "Old Woman's Purse of Money (1) (The)" which may be the oldest title.
