It was published in his Logie Collection (1888) and dedicated to A. McWilliam, Portsoy. The air is followed by another air, "Rose-acre, Farewell" in the same collection, dedicated to Mrs. Davie, Portsoy.



Rose Acre cottage and public gardens are in Banff, near the North Sea coast. It was described in the Ordnance Survey 1867-69 as a "neat villa, with offices, garden, a small ornamental lawn, and a few acres of arable land attached: the property of the Earl of Seafield."
