ROYAL CRADLE. English, Country Dance Tune (cut time). F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody is unique to London publisher Charles and Samuel Thompson’s 1765 country dance collection. The title may refer to the newborn William IV (1765-1837), the third son of George III. William eventually ascended the throne of England, succeeding his elder brother George IV in 1830. He was the last king of Britain's House of Hanover.
