Annotation:Russell's Jig
Appearance
RUSSELL'S JIG. American, Jig (6/8 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Russell's Jig" is contained in the 1938 manuscript of New Hampshire musician John Taggart (1854-1943), entitled âRecollections of a Busy Lifeâ (New Hampshire Historical Society, Concord, N.H.). Taggart wrote in his ms. that the tunes âwere all taught me during my boyhood days in Sharon (N.H.), by the various fiddlers in that vicinityâ [Miller]. Randy Miller points out that Sharon is in âthe heart of the Monadnock Region of southwestern New Hampshire, where fiddlers and contra dances abound to this dayâ (pref. iv) [Miller].
