John Quinn and Conor Ward find County Leitrim fiddler and piper biography:Stephen Grier's (c. 1824-1894) "Miss Steward" to be a cognate of "Sailor's Cravat."
Source for notated version: - Chicago fiddler biography:John McFadden (c. 1847-c. 1913) [O'Neill]. McFadden was born in County Mayo into a musical family; his father and brother were both fiddlers. He had a large repertoire and was the source for numerous tunes in the O'Neill collections. He was also valued by O'Neill for his original compositions and for his ability to spontaneously create melodic variations as he played.
