SANDY McGREGOR'S. American, Quickstep (2/4 time). A Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. A close variant of the Scottish tune "Waulkin' o' the Fauld (The)." The tune appears in minstrel biography:Dan Emmett’s Fife Instructor (p. 59), named in honor of his old fife instructor, one Sandie McGregor. Emmett was stationed at Newport Barracks, Kentucky, after joining the army as a teenager in 1834, where he came into contact with McGregor (Hans Nathan, Dan Emmett and Negro Minstrelsy, Univ. of Oklahoma Press, 1962, p. 108).
