SANDY RIVER BELLE [3]. American, Reel (cut time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. This version of "Sandy River Belle" was recorded for Columbia Records by Charley La Prade and His Blue Ridge Highballers in New York in 1926. There are similarities to Charlie Poole & the North Carolina Ramber's "Forks of Sandy," recorded just a few months later. Fiddler Charley La Prade (1888-1958) was from Franklin County, Virginia, and had some formal musical training. He was a skilled fiddler, and played "Sandy River Belle" and similar tunes at a very fast pace.
