Ireland, Sliabh Luachra region of the Cork-Kerry border. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA’B: AABB: AABB' (Roche). Scartaglen is the name of a village in Sliabh Luachra, County Kerry, some 12 miles northeast of Killarney and close to the town of Castleisland. An antecedent version of the piece appears as an untitled "old set tune" in Frank Roche's Collection of Traditional Irish Music, vol. 2 (1912, No. 300). "Scartaglen Polka" is played paired with “Denis Murphy's Polka (1)” by source Johnny O’Leary. Matt Cranitch suggests pairing it with “Top of the Maol (The).”
