SCOTTY O'NEILL. American, Polka or Reel (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Composed by Peterborough, New Hampshire, contra dance musician and composer Bob McQuillen (1924-2014) in 1973 for a friend ("with love to Becky and Scott"). McQuillen was an industrial arts teacher, weight-lifting coach and bus driver in Peterborough and later a police chief of Dublin, New Hampshire. "Scotty O'Neill" was his first tune, named for a student and family friend who had died a tragic death in a motorcycle accident. McQullen went on to compose over 1000 more tunes.
