SEÁN REID'S REEL. AKA – “Seán Reid's Favourite/Fancy.” AKA and see “Courting in the Garden,” “Gilbert Clancy's Reel,” “James Ryan's Favorite,” "West Wind (1) (The)." Irish, Reel (cut or whole time). G Major/Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA’B (Mitchell): AABB (Cranitch). Piper and fiddler Seán Reid was born in County Donegal, but lived most of his life in County Clare, where his parents hailed from. He recorded with Clare piper Willie Clancy in 1957, and allowed the latter a prized set of concert pipes made by Leo Rowsome on an extended loan. Reid was also involved with céilí bands from County Clare in the 1950's and 60's, and, in particular, the Tulla Céilí Band.

Willie’s father is honored by the alternate title “Gilbert Clancy’s,” for whom this was a favorite tune. This melody is commonly referred to as "The West Wind," say the Chieftains. It is melodically related to the hornpipe "Buachaill Dreoite (1) (An)" and the jig "Bímid ag Ól is ag Pógadh na mBan" (of which it is perhaps a version). Danu’s “Peeler's Jacket (4)" is similar in the first strain of the tune.
