SEAS ARE DEEP, THE. Irish, Air (3/4 time). E Flat Minor (Petrie): D Dorian (Howe): D Minor (Mulhollan). Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Stanford/Petrie): AABB (Howe, Mulhollan). The tune is attributed to blind Irish harper Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738), thought Donal O’Sullivan, in his definitive work on the bard could find no incontrovertible evidence of its origin [1].
