The tune is sourced to fiddler Milo Biggers (1894-1976), of Glasgow, Barren County, in south-central Kentucky, just west of what is considered the Cumberland Plateau region (Glasgow is mid-way between Nashville, Tenn., and Louisville, Ky.). Biggers' "Shelvin' Rock" is unrelated to other tunes of the same name, which are most often played in A cross-tuning. Biggers was recorded in 1974 by field researcher Bruce Greene.
