SHERIFF MULDOON'S.AKA and see "Bow-Legged Tailor (The)." American, Jig (6/8 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. One of several compositions credited to “J. Hand” in Ryan’s Mammoth Collection(1883). New York City researcher, writer and musician Don Meade finds the tune in O’Neill as “Bow-Legged Tailor (The).” He believes there were two brothers, James and John Hand, who were fiddlers in the Boston, Massachusetts, area in the mid-19th century. A variant, somewhat distanced (and perhaps derived from a common ancestor), was printed as "Sheriff Muir (2)" in Boston publisher Elias Howe's 1000 Jigs and Reels (1867).
