SHUN THE CORNER. AKA and see "Blue Breeches (The)," "Fan Mar Táir a Chlaidhre!," "Jackson's Lodge (2)," "Stay As You Are You Rogue!," "Stay where you are." Irish, Double Jig (6/8 time). The air is usually set as a jig and can be found under a few variant titles. Researcher Conor Ward finds a cognate reel-time setting of "Shun the Corner" in 19th century music manuscripts from County Leitrim, under the title "Blue Breeches (The)," and remarks: "It seems the jig and reel co-existed as early as the 1840s and it's possible the reel evolved from the parent jig." Fr. John Quinn also finds a cognate tune in Richard Fitzmaurice's "Tore Retreat (The)."
