SICK BOY [2], THE. Scottish, Air (whole time). A Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Composed c. 1893 by the great Scots fiddler-composer biography:J. Scott Skinner (1843-1927). A note verso on Gavin Grieg's manuscript copy of the tune, in Skinner's hand, says 'Wee Manson'. Manson was J. Scott Skinner's son, born in 1881. Barely a toddler, his illness must have been a source of grave concern for his parents. Manson survived and, in his youth, sometimes shared the stage with his father, singing and dancing Highland and 'novelty' dances. Later in life he emigrated to Australia and fought in World War I with the ANZACS.
