"The Silver Tip" was the title for the melody recorded in Chicago on a 1930 Columbia 78 RPM by Francis Cashin and Tom Cawley; Cawley was a fiddler originally from the Tubbercurry, Doocastle, County Sligo, region who often paired with another fiddler, Francis Cashin. They recorded the side in December, 1929, which was released the following year. The Ballinakill Ceili Band called it “Maids of Glenroe (The)” on their 1931 recording.
