SLIGO FANCY, THE. AKA and see “Dunn's Hornpipe,” “Flowers of Antrim (1) (The),” “Marquis of Lorne (1),” “McDermott's Hornpipe (1)," "Newry Hornpipe (The).” Irish (?), Hornpipe. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. A hornpipe of unknown provenance. It was published in the 1880's in Scotland as "Marquis of Lorne (1)." Sligo fiddler Michael Coleman (1891-1945) recorded it as the second tune in a set called "McDermott's" (see "McDermott's Hornpipe (3)." The Chieftains called it "Newry Hornpipe" on their recording "Water from the Well" (2000).
