SLINGSBY'S ALLEMAND. English, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The title refers to the famous London stage dancer Simon Slingsby, for whom see note to "annotation:Slingsby's Hornpipe (2)." The tune was included in a number of latter 18th/early 19th century musicians manuscripts on both sides of the Atlantic. In England, it was entered into copybooks of William Calvert, Edward Holmes and others. In America, it can be found in the music manuscript collections of Micah Hawkins (New York, 1794), Silas Dickinson (Amherst, MA, c. 1800), Ira Clark (Simsbury, CT, c. 1801), James Hosmer (East Hartford, CT, 1799), Luther Kingsley (Mansfield, CT., 1795-1815) and Thomas Nixon (Danbury, CT).
