SMOKY MOUNTAIN WALTZ. American, Waltz (3/4 time). D Major ('A' part) & G Major ('B' part). Standard tuning (fiddle). ABC. "Smoky Mountain Waltz" was popularized by bluegrass fiddler Chubby Wise. A "Smoky Mountain Waltz" was recorded by fiddler Jimmy McCarroll with the Roane County Ramblers for Columbia Records in Johnson City, Tenn., in October, 1929, but the side was unissued (it may or may not be the same as Wise's waltz).
