SNOW STORM [1], THE (An seignean sneacta). Irish, Air (4/4 time). G Major/Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. County Leitrim piper and fiddler Stephen Grier's untitled "Hornpipe (55)" is cognate in the first strain. There are some similarities with "Miss Lacey's Hornpipe," but probably only coincidental in nature. Fr. John Quinn sees O'Neill's "The Snow Storm" to be "an attempt to improve on a Petrie air," an untitled air obtained from collector P.W. Joyce (see Stanford/Petrie, 1905, No. 98).
