SO NOW MY DEAR JOHNNY. AKA and see "Tatter Jack Walsh" (An tAthair Jack Walsh). Irish, American; Air and Jig (6/8 time). USA, Massachusetts. G Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Bayard states the melody was well known as a vocal air (but not as a dance tune) in southwestern Pa., his primary collecting region. The title "So now my dear Johnny" derives from words set to the tune, the fragments of which Bayard's source gave as "So now, my dear Johnny, your cash is all out" and "So now, my dear Johnny, your coat is all torn."
