A popular reel and country dance, especially in the Scottish Country Dance tradition. wikipedia:Sowans is sweet Scottish dish, traditionally the husks and siftings of oats, boiled to the consistency of molasses. In England it is called flummery. Sowans with butter is always the traditional Halloween supper, writes poet Robert Burns. The melody appears in one of London publisher Longman and Broderips 18th century collections (1792).
