SPELL, THE. AKA and see "Highland Spell (The)," "Love in a Village (1)," "New Bath Whim," "Trip to Bedford House.” Scottish, English; Reel. England, Northumberland. C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB (Gow, Martin): AABB (Bremner). John Glen (1891) finds the earliest appearance of tune in Robert Bremner's 1757 collection, but later included in a few other Scottish dance collections, including those of Niel Gow and Neil Stewart. It is one of the "missing tunes" from William Vickers 1770 Northumbrian dance tune manuscript.
