The reel appears in the large mid-19th century music manuscript collection of County Cork cleric and uilleann piper Canon biography:James Goodman. The first strain tonality is indeterminate, with a resolution to 'D' at the cadence and then strongly in the second strain. Goodman researchers Hugh and Lisa Shield have identified the second strain as cognate with the first strain of "All Round the Room" from the Stephen Grier (County Leitrim, 1883) music manuscript collection (printed in Breathnach & Small, Ceol Rince na hÉireann vol. 4, No. 106), and with the first strain of Goodman's own "Fanny" (vol. 4, p. 79)
