SPUD ISLAND (BREAKDOWN/REEL). Canadian, Reel (2/4 or cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The province of Prince Edward Island is sometimes referred to as 'Spud Island' due to the plentiful agricultural staple, the potato. "Spud Island" was composed by fiddler Cecil McEachern, longtime associated of Maritime radio and TV fiddler Don Messer. The tune is a version of “Reel du cordonnier (Le)” ("Cobbler's Reel (3)).
