Sputnik I was the first satellite launched into orbit by humans. It was launched in 1957 by the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR).
SPUTNIK BREAKDOWN.   Canadian, Reel (whole or 2/4 time).  Canada, New Brunswick, Ontario. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB.  "Sputnik Breakdown" was composed by multi-indstrumentalist Marguerite "June" Eikhard, née Cameron (1932-2023), who was born in Moncton, New Brunwick, and who died at Oshawa, Ontario. She began her musical career with her husband, bassist Cecil Eikhard, in the '50s, when they were both part of a local band called the Tantramar Ramblers. In 1959, she released her debut album, Canada's First Lady of the Fiddle, and in that same year she placed in the Championship Class at the 1959 annual Canadian Old Time Fiddler's Contest held at Shelburne, Ontario, the first woman to do so. Eikhard could be heard on radio and TV broadcasts in the second half of the 20th century regionally and on national Canadian shows such as the Don Messer Show.
