ST. JOHN'S WELL. Scottish, Strathspey (whole time). E Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. The composition is credited to "C. Bleaw" in William Morrison's c. 1813 volume. There are numerous 'St. John's Well's' in Scotland; it is a fairly common place-name. St. John's Well, Aberdeen, was so named because the Knights of St John of Jerusalem supposedly owned a croft near it; other St. John's Wells were named for springs.
