STANLEY FERRY [1] HORNPIPE. English, Hornpipe (whole or cut time). England, Yorkshire. A Major ('A' part) & E Major ('B' part). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Stanley Ferry" is a local Yorkshire title for this hornpipe that was also entered (twice) as untitled tunes into the adjacent Derbyshire manuscript of biography:John Roose at about the same time as biography:Lawrence Leadley (Yorkshire) entered it into his own ms. copybook. Stanley Ferry, was a ferry crossing the River Calder near Wakefield, Yorkshire. It was originally the site of a ford, but the water was deepened for navigation necessitating a ferry. It was replaced by a bridge in 1879.
