D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. The tune is contained in the large mid-19th century music manuscript collection of Canon James Goodman. See also cognates "Sailor Lassie (The)" and "Miss Margaret MacGregor’s Favourite," both from the late 18th century collections of Glasgow musician James Aird. Straight and Skillern printed the tune in London around 1775 as "Sailor's Delight (4)."

The tune echoes "Shandon Bells," but is not cognate.

Source for notated version: - Goodman had it from the music manuscripts of collector John Edward Pigot (1822–1871), whose source was "Miss O'Connel" (sometimes given as O'Connell) of Grena, Kilarney, County Cork, who was his informant for a half-dozen tunes or more. She had the tunes in a manuscript collection that she lent Pigot.
