Sheet Music for "Tadgh's Ailment"Tadgh's AilmentHornpipe

TADGH'S AILMENT. AKA and see "Stack's Hornpipe." Irish, Hornpipe (4/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Tadgh's Ailment" is a hornpipe cognate with an unnamed hornpipe in the repertory of Chicago fiddler Patrick Stack, called simply "Stack's Hornpipe" in Francis O'Neill's Waifs and Strays of Gaelic Melody (1922, No. 313). The tunes are not identical, however, and there is a noticeable difference in the third/seventh measures of each part of "Tadgh," which goes to the dominant chord of the key, while "Stack's" remains in the tonic key. The relationship between the two is quite apparent in the rest of the tunes, however. See also "Honeysuckle (2) (The)" for another possible member of this tune family.
