TEN POUND LASS, THE. English, Country Dance Tune (2/2 time). G Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). ABB. "Ten Pound Lass," melody and directions for a country dance, was first published in London by wikipedia:John_Playford (1623–1686/7) in his Dancing Master, 4th edition (1670). It was retained in the long-running series of Dancing Master editions through the 18th and final edition of 1728 (then published by John Young); although the tune remained the same for nearly sixty years, the dance was modified and, in the last two editions, the repeats were removed. "Ten Pound Lass" was also printed by rival music publisher John Walsh in his Complete Country Dancing Master, editions of 1718 and 1731.
