TIPP’S TUNE. American, Reel (cut time). G Major ('A' part) & C Major ('B' part). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Nebraska fiddler Uncle Bob Walters learned this melody in the first half of the 20th century from fiddler Willis Tipperey, who ran a barber shop in Decatur, Nebraska, that became a congregating place for local fiddlers, according to Mark Wilson (Rounder 0529). Wilson thinks it has turn-of-the 20th century military march origins.
