TOSS THE FEATHERS [3] ("Umpuig na clumac" or "Croith na cleiteacha"). Irish, Reel (cut time). D Mixolydian (Mallinson, O'Neill, Taylor): D Major (Breathnach). Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'B. A variant of O'Neill's "Toss the Feathers (2). AB (Tubridy): AA'B (O'Neill): AABB (Taylor, Vallely): AABB' (Breathnach): AA’BB’ (Mallinson). "Toss the Feathers [3]" is related to “Toss the Feathers (1)” and "Toss the Feathers (2)," especially in the second stain. Taylor (1992) remarks "It's as if the O'Neill version is at the stage where the tune was half-way through changing from E minor to D, or vice versa."
"Toss the Feathers [3]", the second of O'Neill's settings of the tune, was recorded by early 20th century uilleann piper and stage performer wikipedia:Patsy_Touhey (1865-1923) on a cylinder, although he called it "Kerry Reel."
