A staple fifer's march based on the extremely popular American Civil War song by wikipedia:George_F._Root (1820-1895). Root was born at Sheffield, Massachusetts, and studied music in Boston and Paris, earning a doctorate in music at Chicago University. He was a supporter of music in the American school curriculum. Other Civil War song compositions of Root’s were “The Battle-Cry of Freedom” and “Just Before the Battle, Mother.” “Tramp, Tramp, Tramp” is also well-known as the melody of “God Save Ireland.”
