The tune is contained in the large mid-19th century collection of Canon biography:James Goodman (vol. iii, p. 89) [1]. "Tristram Shandy (1)" appears to be related to the family of tunes that includes “Bothár ó thuaidh go dtí Árainn (An)” (South Road to Aran) and “Billy O'Rourke's the Buachaill (1)." The relationship does not appear to be cognate, but there are similarities in melodic contour and some harmonic concordances.
